Matthew Hamblin

Associate

Matthew advises and represents employers across a broad range of industrial relations, employment and occupational health and safety matters. His practice spans litigation before the Fair Work Commission, Federal Court, and Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia), as well as advisory work on contractual disputes and restraints, enterprise bargaining, underpayment claims, safety compliance, and strategic day-to-day HR/employee relations matters.  

Matthew works closely with clients to deliver practical, commercially focused advice that is tailored to each client’s needs while remaining mindful of the applicable regulatory framework. 

Examples of matters Matthew has worked on include: 

  • Representing clients in proceedings under the Sex Discrimination Act 1984 (Cth) and other federal anti-discrimination legislation. 
  • Acting for clients in respect of post-employment restraint of trade and confidentiality matters, including urgent injunctive relief applications. 
  • Advising on Fair Work Act 2009 (Cth), modern award and enterprise agreement compliance, including large-scale underpayment matters. 
  • Advising clients on issues surrounding ill and injured workers, including managing return to work and capacity matters, and mental health in the workplace. 
  • Advising on psychosocial hazards in the workplace and providing training sessions for clients on managing psychosocial risks. 
  • Drafting and reviewing employment agreements, workplace policies and enterprise agreements. 
  • Acting for clients in unfair dismissal and general protections claims before the Fair Work Commission. 

Matthew holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and Bachelor of Arts (Indonesian studies) from Monash University. Aside from work, Matthew has a keen interest in football, keeping active, camping, and staying abreast of international relations.
