Market-leading infrastructure and energy lawyer, John Kehoe, has joined KHQ’s expanding construction practice, which will now be known as Construction, Infrastructure & Energy. Kehoe brings extensive front-end expertise advising on complex construction and infrastructure projects across Australia, complementing the team’s established middle-end and back-end capability.

Since its establishment in 2024 and led by David Hastie, the practice has expanded to a team of six, reflecting its increasing national profile and reputation for delivering technically excellent, commercially grounded advice. Incorporating Kehoe’s expertise, the team provides project-lifecycle support across major projects in the property, energy, transport, and infrastructure sectors.

Speaking on his appointment, Kehoe said “I’m excited to be joining KHQ at a time of strong momentum for the firm and the team. The opportunity to work alongside David and a growing group of high-calibre lawyers, in a firm that values technical excellence and commercial pragmatism, was a compelling one.”

Echoing those sentiments, David Hastie said “John is an outstanding construction lawyer with a strong market reputation. His arrival significantly strengthens what we can offer clients and reflects the growth of the team since we established the practice only two years ago. We are building something special, and John’s decision to join us is a strong endorsement of that.”

Director Chris Gianatti said the appointment aligned with KHQ’s strategy of building focused, high-performing teams in areas of strong client demand. “John’s appointment speaks to both his individual standing and the capability of the Construction, Infrastructure & Energy team David has built in a short period of time. John’s front-end infrastructure and energy expertise strengthens our ability to support clients across the full project lifecycle, from procurement and structuring through to delivery and dispute resolution.

“We are seeing increasing demand from clients for coordinated, sector-focused advice, particularly across the renewables and legacy energy markets. Our Construction, Infrastructure & Energy team works closely with our Corporate & Commercial, Workplace Relations & Safety and Commercial Property & Development practices to provide integrated support across major projects. This appointment further enhances our ability to deliver technically excellent, commercially grounded advice across the firm’s broader construction, energy and infrastructure platform.”
